Book Review: My First Deer Hunt
My First Deer Hunt by Curtis and Michael Waguespack (Country Kid Publishing, 2004) takes a touching look at a father and son spending a day together in the deer woods. The 25-page children's book is perfect for reading aloud to a young child or for a beginning reader to practice and gain an appreciation of hunting and wildlife at the same time.
The story is told from the child's point of view and features beautiful full color pictures of deer, a turkey and other wildlife. It presents a very favorable view of hunting, although I was a little perplexed when I noticed that the father in the story did not carry a weapon of any kind.
The good news is, that didn't matter to my kids, who thoroughly enjoyed the book.
If you're looking for a cheap hunting-related Christmas present for your kids, this book is a good one to consider.

I saw a review of this boook someplace else, can't think where, and they said the same thing. I think the review might have been on the Black Bear Blog.

Happy New Year! I would like to find this book and the author. I am heading up a program to facilitate handicap youth hunts in Arkansas. Can connect me? Thank you!
